Thank you for your support!
This past May we began at 3 am under warm but windy conditions. Despite the early wind, we found American Woodcocks, Virginia Rails, and Screech owls that were active. Soon, we also noted Eastern Whip-poor-wills singing, and a couple of Common Nighthawks near Mt. Baldy, just before dawn. Throughout the morning, we raced through the dunes, finding new birds in each different habitat. Unfortunately, the afternoon winds on the prairie were near brutal at times, and our promised shorebird flooded field had white-caps, rather than white-bellied birds!
For the day, our team eked out a lower than average 145, but still a great total for one day in the field. Our team was certainly rewarded with a full 18 hours of birding in the great forests, fields, and wetlands in our beautiful Indiana. If you’d like to see where all we went, check out our eBird Trip Report at: ebird.org/tripreport/57964
